Candidates

Craig Cellar (Currently Serving)

I was appointed to the HOA Board in January 2011 following the resignation of Virginia Smith. Since that time, I have come to a fuller appreciation for the work of the HOA board and its role in keeping costs down while ensuring that the buildings are appropriately maintained and owners apprised of issues that affect them.

I retired from the National Park Service after 37 years. My background is as an archeologist and historian but my years with the NPS were spent mainly as a park planner. I led interdisciplinary teams to various parks around the country, identifying issues and concerns/opportunities and developing general management plans (master plans with environmental impact statements). These were 20-year plans that helped the NPS to manage, develop, and interpret the resources of each park. Many of the skills I've learned are directly applicable to Board work--identifying the problem or opportunity, looking at options, developing an understanding of the pros and cons of each option, and working with the Board to make the most appropriate decision.

Since being on the Board, my most obvious contributions have been:  representing Swallow Hill Condominiums as volunteer coordinator on the Uptown Alliance' Neighborhood Night Out Block Party, heading up the planning for the fall 2011 pizza party, and researching the issues associated with installation of fireplace units in owner condominiums.

If elected, I pledge to work tirelessly to make Swallow Hill Condominiums the envy of the neighborhood, and our residents proud.

Denise DeForest (currently serving)

I am running for another term on the Board because I believe that the Board is heading in the right direction by maintaining its focus on the long-term needs of the Swallow Hill community.  This means keeping an eye on building the capital reserves properly, proactively maintaining the buildings, and operating in ways to build solid, long-term relationships between the Board and the owners and residents.  I bring a good set of skills to the table to help these processes. I work as an administrative law judge for the state, after serving for several years as a state assistant attorney general. Those experiences have helped me serve the Board when it needs to utilize legal processes, as well as to work toward productive solutions in resolving issues with owners and residents.  I fully support the Board’s efforts to increase the amount of information available to owners and residents through the use of our website and our email outreach efforts, as well as the Board’s development of relationships within our own community through periodic social functions and with our neighbors through involvement with various community functions.

Dave Suss (currently serving)

Dave Suss has served on the Swallow Hill HOA Board of Trustees since 2009, serving on the Communications Committee and assisting the Secretary. During that tenure, Dave has worked on improving communications on our website (SwallowHillHOA.org) as well as messages sent from Saint Charles Town and the Board. Additionally, Suss served on the Capital Reserve Review Committee which studied and mapped out the HOA's long-term solvency.

As we move into 2012 and 2013 he looks to continue this work by focusing on a few key projects:

  • Adding to our record of transparency by keeping a current record of all board motions and results;
  • Engaging members of the Swallow Hill community to volunteer their talents in ways that strengthen our homes;
  • Aiding the Treasurer and acting a back up for that officer.

Dave returned to Denver in 2008 as the Director of Programs and Technology at a national non-profit, The Kellogg Fellows Leadership Alliance.  There his primary responsibilities include developing strategic direction of programming for a network of 1500 social justice activists, events management and technological deployment. Prior to returning to Denver, Dave completed his Master of Arts Degree in International Management: Finance & Accounting at the Berlin School of Economics.
Says Dave, "It has been my pleasure to serve on the Board for the past few years and I will be happy to give back to our community with your support."

Janna Williams

I moved into the association this past July. I would enjoy the opportunity to serve my community as well as meet my new neighbors. I am a CPA who has 10 years of experience auditing Homeowners Associations and property management companies. Therefore, I am familiar with the financial operations, as well as many of the laws, regulations and operating procedures. I served my prior community on the Board of Directors in a variety of positions, including President, Treasurer, and Member at Large for over five years.

Thank you for your consideration.
